Active Transportation and Safe Streets for Niles!
Bike Walk Niles is a community-driven group dedicated to promoting active transportation—like walking, biking, scootering, and skating—throughout the Village of Niles and nearby neighborhoods.
We work together to make Niles safer, more accessible, and more enjoyable for everyone who travels without a car. Our efforts focus on improving local infrastructure, educating the community about safety, and creating fun, inclusive ways to connect with one another.
Whether you’re commuting, exercising, or just enjoying the outdoors, Bike Walk Niles is here to support a healthier, more connected Village.
The Cycling Without Age program at the Niles Senior Center provides a safe and fun way for seniors to enjoy the thrill of a bike ride. Through this program, seniors can take a ride in an electric rickshaw, safely pedaled by volunteers.
Cruise through the forest preserve...Spin through the neighborhood...Share stories...Reminisce...Feel the wind in your hair!
Join us on this adventure. If you're interested in being a volunteer pilot, please contact 847-588-8420. Training will be provided.
We plan a ride every month highlighting a different part of the Niles community. We might cross the bridge in the forest preserve or wind through Grennan Heights, or even climb to the top of the Leaning Tower of Niles!
All our rides are family-friendly and larger groups may include a police escort to assist with traffic and safety.
To kick off the start of what is hopefully an amazing summer for everyone, Bike Walk Niles is organizing its first bike ride of 2025, and it is an exciting ride.
We are partnering with the local coffee shop Grind N Gears, and we will ride to the Leaning Tower. This is the exciting part, if you would like you will be able to climb to the top of the Leaning Tower you are going to be able to.
This is a casual, family friendly bike ride from Grind N Gears coffee shop to the Leaning Tower in Niles IL, about 5 miles there and 5 miles back. When we get to the Leaning Tower we will be able to go up to the top!. We will have a volunteer trailing to ensure no one gets left behind.
This is the link to the route we will be taking. This route uses side streets, and bike paths whenever possible. We cross major streets at lights whenever possible. We will highlight some new pedestrian infrastructure that the village has built or plans to build.
